My professional path

I completed the two-year training course to become a biological-technical assistant at the School of Life Science at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf. In the process, I did one of my four-month internships at altona Diagnostics. I liked it very much and I was taken on by altona after the apprenticeship in 2013. After working in different departments, I have been with Operations in the Quality Control Assays group since 2017.

My tasks as Technical Assistant Quality Control Assays

We receive the PCR kits components from production and check that they meet the parameters to be sold. For this we get individual tubes as a sample of a total quantity. We do a PCR run and, if everything is in order, give the OK to production and packaging. We check the packed kits with the tested components again and then release the kit for sale. Each of our 10 employees tests different kits per day.

My professional highlight

I like to take responsibility. What I am clearing is used in laboratories to test patients for viral or bacterial pathogens via PCR.

As my own project, I developed a OneNote template in which we can track our internal test progress in the group. Based on my previous experience in software, I also designed a program applying Visual Basic that we can use to quickly enter reports in tables. This makes our internal evaluation more automated.

That’s why I like working at altona

Communication is very good with all colleagues. My ideas are accepted, I have the freedom to develop propositions.

I have two children, and at altona they always take this into account with agreements and flexible solutions. Since 2021, I have reduced to 32 hours and thus a four-day week. That was also granted smoothly.

And that’s also possible

I like to take part in the “active lunch break” session once a week. Here we meet at noon in the nearby park and relax with stretching and stabilization exercises.

The group’s good team spirit is further reinforced, for example, by joint activities during the Christmas season. I have fond memories of the trips to the Christmas market or cheerful celebrations in the restaurant.
