My professional path

I completed an apprenticeship in hotel management and then worked mainly in the luxury hotel industry. From 2016 to 2020 I was executive assistant at the Hotel Atlantic in Hamburg.

After the birth of my son, I looked for a new job with a better work-life balance. An acquaintance who works at altona Diagnostics told me about an open position at Order Processing. With a lateral career move I applied and was accepted for February 2020.

My tasks as Order Processing professional

We check and record the orders that reach us from all over the world. We ensure that the orders are processed promptly and on time and can be taken over and executed by our Logistics department. In close cooperation with Sales and Logistics, we support our customers in an advisory capacity.

My professional highlight

When I started in February 2020, altona was among the first companies to develop and sell a SARS-CoV-2 PCR test. The orders skyrocketed, I was allowed to jump straight in at the deep end. I passed the baptism of fire and processed the mountain of SARS-CoV-2 PCR test kit orders with my colleagues. Since then, nothing has been able to shake me out of my stride here.

That’s why I like working at altona

At altona I can optimally combine family and career. 30 hours, 6 hours a day, 2 of which are home office days. There is enough time for son and family: day care allowance, special leave days, and the flexibility within the company make it possible.

Also positive: at the height of the pandemic, altona spontaneously organized childcare for 6 months within the altona premises with trained educators to relieve parents.

And that’s also possible

altona offers employees the opportunity to change within the company if the constellation is suitable. For example, R&D and Tech Support colleagues became Sales Managers, and one Tech Support colleague made the leap to R&D scientist. Such development opportunities are another plus factor at altona.
