  • Prepares consumables for our AltoStar® instrument for shipment

  • Is the IT troubleshooter for internal warehouse issues

  • Brought his large warehouse expertise to the move to the new Logistics hall

  • Provided Bavarian flair at the altona Oktoberfest with his Logistics colleagues

My professional path

I completed my training as a warehouse clerk and my first job in Opel’s small parts warehouse. After that, I was a logistician for a supplier of consumer electronics accessories for over a decade. In connection with the desire to move directly from the surrounding area to Hamburg, I started in the Logistics department of altona Diagnostics in March 2021.

My tasks as Logistics professional

„My expertise was trusted during the move.”

There are three main areas of responsibility in Logistics: documenting the goods in the office, packing the consumables for our AltoStar® automation system and preparing the boxes and documents for the products that are shipped as refrigerated goods – mostly on dry ice.

I’m responsible for the consumables, spending around 60 % on the computer in the office and 40 % in the hall. In addition, I’m now the IT troubleshooter for internal warehouse issues.

Parallel to the growth of the company, the logistics department has also made great leaps. First housed in one of our main buildings, we moved into a hall with 800 m2 and are now in our own building complex with approx. 3,500 m2.

My professional highlight

After a short time, I was given the responsibility for shipping AltoStar® spare parts. To keep AltoStar® instruments running seamlessly in laboratories worldwide, we deliver several sets of up to 180 spare parts to our subsidiaries. In their respective warehouses, the spare parts are ready for our technical service, e.g. for device maintenance. From there, they are further distributed to our laboratory customers.

Another positive: When moving into the 3,500 m2 hall, my expertise in high-bay storage and forklifts was trusted.

That’s why I like working at altona

Right from the start, the department gave me the feeling that my job is important. It’s varied and the team spirit is great. I haven’t experienced that so intensively in other companies.

It’s also a good feeling that the products we make ready for shipment contribute to people’s health.

And that’s also possible

In autumn 2021, altona invited all employees to a hearty open-air Oktoberfest. The best place for this was in front of our former logistics hall. So of course, we were also involved in the preparation. On the day itself, several hundred altona employees flocked to us and enjoyed typical Bavarian flair with white sausages, wheat beer and white and blue decorations – and that in the far north.
