Shining a light on hepatitis D

On this year’s World Hepatitis Day, we are placing a special focus on hepatitis D virus (HDV). It is the most severe form of chronic viral hepatitis yet remains one of the least recognized. Because HDV can only infect people living with hepatitis B virus (HBV), many cases remain undetected unless specifically tested. Chronic HDV can rapidly progress to cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer, making early detection essential for patient management.
