altona Diagnostics is pleased to welcome Maija Torniainen as new Head of Sales Europe. She joined the company in March 2026 and brings with her more than 20 years of experience in the molecular diagnostics industry, including extensive expertise in sales leadership, commercial operations, and organizational development.
In her role, Maija is responsible for strengthening altona’s presence across Europe by enhancing collaboration and alignment between regions – across direct sales, commercial partners, and subsidiaries. She oversees direct sales in DACH, Nordics, Benelux, Hungary, and Romania, while working closely with teams across the wider European organization.
Before joining altona, Maija held various senior positions, gaining valuable experience in change management, including leading regional reorganizations, and developed a strong background in infectious disease markets.
With more than 20 years of experience in molecular diagnostics, including senior roles in sales leadership, commercial operations, and change management, Maija combines industry expertise with a strong passion for modern, people-focused leadership. She holds a degree in Molecular and Cell Biology and is also a certified biology teacher, combining scientific expertise with a natural ability to communicate complex topics clearly and effectively.
After an intensive onboarding phase at the Hamburg headquarters and close exchange with teams across Europe, Maija is now fully engaged in her role. Based in Helsinki, she will continue to travel extensively to connect with colleagues, customers, and partners.
