Two RealStar® Hantavirus PCR Kits are out now. The RealStar® Hantavirus-HPS RT-PCR Kit 1.0 (RUO) is a reagent system, based on real-time PCR technology, for the qualitative detection of RNA specific for hantavirus species causing pulmonary syndrome (HPS). The second new product, the RealStar® Hantavirus-HFRS RT-PCR Kit 1.0 (RUO), is designed for the qualitative detection and differentiation of RNA specific for hantavirus species causing hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS).
There are several human pathogenic hantavirus species. Transmission occurs through the feces or urine of rodents. The distribution varies geographically. Hantaviruses that can cause hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) are mainly distributed in North and South America, while those that can cause hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) are found in Asia and in Europe.
The RealStar® Hantavirus-HPS RT-PCR Kit 1.0 (RUO) can be used to detect hantavirus species that cause HPS. As the severity and morbidity of HFRS depends on the hantavirus species, the RealStar® Hantavirus-HFRS RT-PCR Kit 1.0 (RUO) can detect and differentiate between the hantavirus species Dobrava-Belgrade virus (DOBV), Seoul virus (SEOV), Hantaan virus (HNTV) and Puumala virus (PUUV). The kit consists of two independent assays, one targeting DOBV & SEOV and the other targeting HTNV & PUUV.
Both kits are for research use only (RUO) and not for use in diagnostic procedures.
