Extension of RealStar® Tropical PCR Panel: RealStar® Yellow Fever Virus RT-PCR Kit is now CE-IVD marked

Yellow fever is part of an uptick in mosquito-borne diseases all over the world that are suddenly threatening global health in new and scary ways. The transmission of yellow fever virus (YFV) occurs through infected mosquitos and the most common vector is Aedes aegypti. To control regional outbreaks even mild courses of the disease should be diagnosed as they can also contribute significantly and a diagnose based on the symptoms only is difficult due to the flue-like appearance of a YFV infection.

The new CE-IVD marked RealStar® Yellow Fever Virus RT-PCR Kit 1.0 is an in vitro diagnostic test for the qualitative detection of yellow fever virus specific RNA. This kit was developed for the detection of all described yellow fever virus strains including the vaccine strain 17D.

The Yellow Fever Virus is related to the Zika, dengue, and chikungunya viruses, all spread by A. aegypti. Parallel testing with the CE-marked RealStar® Kits Zika 1.0, Dengue 2.0, Rift Valley fever virus 1.0, and Chikungunya 2.0 is possible.
