altona launches FlexStar^® Mp & Cp & Lp PCR product

As a new member of the respiratory panel, altona Diagnostics has recently launched the FlexStar^® Mp & Cp & Lp PCR Detection Mix 1.5 RUO. It is a reagent system, based on real-time PCR technology, for the qualitative detection and differentiation of Mycoplasma pneumoniae (Mp), Chlamydia pneumoniae (Cp) and Legionella pneumophila (Lp) specific DNA. The detection mix is for research use only (RUO).

With this new PCR product, the detection of legionella is now also included in the FlexStar^® respiratory portfolio, thereby optimizing it.

About the pathogens in general

Mycoplasma pneumoniae (Mp), Chlamydia pneumoniae (Cp) and Legionella pneumophila (Lp) are human pathogenic bacteria associated with upper and lower respiratory tract infections. While Mp and Cp are transmitted directly from person to person, Lp is spread in environmental water reservoirs or maintained water systems and is transmitted by inhalation of contaminated aerosols. The above pathogens can lead to so-called community-acquired pneumonia, which requires specialized treatment. It is therefore highly important to identify the origin of the pneumonia to avoid misuse of antibiotics and ensure a full recovery.
